Our Story: Lucid Colour was created from a lifelong passion for colour, sparked by founder Luke’s childhood experiments in a make-shift lab in Sydney. Mixing found chemicals in old pickle jars as a inquisitive kid, leading to chemical reactions to make pure pigments, this journey led to the creation of Lucid Colour.

Luke is a dedicated and forward-thinking professional known for his commitment to excellence and his ability to bring innovative solutions to complex challenges. With a reputation for integrity, creativity, honest communication and collaboration, Luke has consistently demonstrated leadership across the pigment and colour industries worldwide, earning the respect of colleagues and industry peers alike. Luke's colour production continues with new technology in recycling metal, plastic and chemicals into new colour and inks for consumer packaging printing where more than 50% of pigments are used and end up in waste or landfill and never recycled. After a tour of some China pigment factories and seeing the water and land pollution, Prof Luke developed the world's first pigment factory to have zero waste.
Luke is a chromatic maverick, equal parts scientist, chemist and artist, a chemical innovator and experimentalist, a philanthropic colour curator who turned his childhood chaos with children's chemistry sets and automotive waste, into world-class colour products that are embraced in every colour industry worldwide.
Humble begins: Basically born holding his mother’s oil paints, on the day of St. Luke's (saint of the artists) to his Polish father (a mechanic) and Sicilian mother (a mechanic too) who was also a part-time art teacher, art author and a book illustrator. Moving to Sydney at a young age where his parents owned a mechanical repair garage. Not attending school in earlier years as Luke did not speak at all, he would hand tools to his parents or dis-assembling anything available to him to see how it works. Childhood dreams of being an inventor or famous artists started very early, followed by Luke's expensive colour addiction with his mothers oil paints and his creative mindset to make things.
Growing up: Luke’s early obsession with colour really ignited at age six when he was removing lead plates from dead car batteries at parents automotive workshop, when discovering lead oxide crystals which became lead White, and lead Red. This led to mixing other metals and acids to find new crystal type precipitates. At age nine Luke converted the workshop garages unused 'out back dunny' into his first Colour Lab filled with colour experiments. At age eleven Luke was chrome plating his friends BMX bikes, and at age thirteen embarked on explosive chemical experiments, from Lead, Copper & Chrome metals and acids, until the Australian Federal Police’s (AFP) bomb squad, who politely suggested Luke sticks to only the experiments in his kid's chemistry sets, NOT explosives and pyrotechnics in local park, the school oval or friends backyard.
Recent years: Professor Luke is a leading colour scientist and “colour addict” and forever addicted to violet and bright pink!
For over 24 years he has created the world's largest pigment catalogue with more than 10,000 unique hues. Now focused in custom made pigments and colour products Luke's expertise provides clients unlimited colours and exact products needed.
Constantly dedicated to discovering new colours, advancing colour chemistry, and providing the best pigments available. Luke is a highly engaging lecturer at Australian universities and colleges, blending chemistry, science and art.
